Salem, OR : One driver dies and another seriously injured in head-on crash on Highway 22 Monday May 9th, 2016
A driver who was weaving in and out of his lane on Highway 22 died in a head-on crash Monday morning, according to police.
Police received a report of a 1997 Acura that was not staying within its eastbound lane on Highway 22 near Milepost 19 east of Salem at 5:50 a.m.
Four minutes later, police received another call that the car was involved in a head-on crash.
Investigators said the Acura collided with a westbound 2000 Chevy Blazer.
The driver of the Acura, 21-year-old Richard Beals of Lyons, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Chevy Blazer, Jessica Lemmer, 36, of Mill City, was taken to Salem Hospital and then flown to Oregon Health & Science University with serious injuries.
A passenger in the Blazer, Kaitlin Mercer, 21, of Mill City, was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. Highway 22 was closed for three hours with a detour in place.
