SCARBOROUGH, ME : Lewiston man hurt in turnpike crash on Thursday, March 9th 2017

A Lewiston man was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when his car slammed into a tractor-trailer on the Maine Turnpike, police said.Erik James, 30, was at Maine Medical Center in Portland where he was undergoing surgery for multiple injuries, police said.

Investigators said James' Ford Focus struck the back of the rig while the truck driver was changing lanes near Mile 40.

The truck driver, 39-year-old Jesus Benitez of Haverhill, Massachusetts, was not hurt, police said. He was hauling logs at the time of the crash.

Maine State Police were investigating the wreck.
