Pine Bluff, AR : Rison man killed in Monday accident on Monday, November 29th 2016

A Rison man was killed Monday in a one-vehicle accident south of Kingsland in Cleveland County.

According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Jerry L. Smith, 39, was northbound on U.S. 79 when the 1990 Honda Accord he was driving crossed the center line and the southbound lane before entering the southbound ditch and hitting several trees. The vehicle came to rest facing south in the southbound ditch.

State Police Cpl. Richard L. Whitley reported that Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by Cleveland County Coroner Sydnie Newman.

The accident was reported at 4:50 p.m., and according to the preliminary report, it was raining and the roadway was wet.

The death was the 498th reported so far this year on the state’s highways.
