VALLEY CENTER, KS : Chicken killed on baseball field at Valley Center High School on Monday, 22nd April 2024

The Valley Center Department of Public Safety has confirmed that a chicken was killed on the baseball diamond at the high school.

The police department said a Valley Center High School employee contacted a school resource officer on Monday about allegations that the Valley Center High School baseball team had killed a chicken on the field before an away game on April 20. The field is located on USD 262 property behind the district’s intermediate school in the 700 block of North Meridian.

Monday afternoon, the district sent a letter to parents alerting them that the varsity baseball team’s season had been suspended due to an animal cruelty investigation. The district said the investigation involved the entire baseball team and coaching staff.

Investigators are working to determine who was on the field when the chicken was killed and find out whether coaches or any other adults were involved.
