Troopers believe a Bothell woman was impaired and driving with a suspended license when she was involved in a head-on crash that left a Lynnwood woman with serious injuries.
The crash occurred around 6 p.m. July 2 on Highway 525 in Lynnwood.
The suspect, 34, was driving southbound on the highway when she swerved to try to avoid a pickup in front of her. Her Honda struck the driver's side of the pickup before crossing a raised concrete median, according to an accident report. Her car then went into the northbound lanes where it slammed into a Mercedes-Benz driven by a Lynnwood woman, 61.
The Lynnwood woman suffered serious injuries, including multiple fractures to her right ankle that will require multiple surgeries, the Washington State Patrol wrote in court papers.
The suspect has two previous DUIs and was driving with a suspended license, troopers wrote.
A trooper wrote that he smelled intoxicants on the woman's breath. A blood sample was taken but results were not included in the court papers.
The suspect also was injured and spent time at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett. She used a walker during a Friday court appearance. Bail was set at $5,000.
While looking inside her purse for her identification at the hospital, troopers allegedly found a marijuana pipe with burned residue and a bottle of antidepressants.
