York Township, OH : Driver injured after rollover crash on U.S. 20 near TR 296 in Sandusky County on Wednesday, August 17, 2016
The Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle crash that happened at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 20 near TR 296 in Sandusky County’s York Township.
A 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Tyler Friend, 22, of Clyde, was traveling east when it went off the right side of the roadway, overturned and struck a telephone pole, troopers said. Friend was partially ejected and trapped under the vehicle. He suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported from the scene by a LifeFlight helicopter to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo.
The Chevrolet Monte Carlo sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene by Grunden’s Towing.
Assisting at the scene were the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Bellevue Fire, North Central EMS, The Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Bellevue Police Department, Life Flight and Grunden’s Towing.
Mr. Friend was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol was a factor in the crash, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation.
