Farmhaven, MS : Ridgeland man killed in one-vehicle accident on Mississippi Highway 16 near Sweet Wright Road on Tuesday afternoon, March 9, 2017

A Ridgeland man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a one-vehicle accident near this community. According to Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Henry, troopers responded to a wreck at 12:34 on Mississippi Highway 16 near Sweet Wright Road. The driver was identified as Vernon Smith, 70. Henry said Smith’s vehicle was traveling eastbound and it appears the driver lost control and struck a tree. The accident remains under investigation. Farmhaven is about 16 miles east of Canton.
