PINON HILLS, CA : Two women killed in a crash on Highway 138 on Wednesday, November, 1st 2017
Authorities released the identities of the two women killed in a crash on Highway 138 Wednesday afternoon.
Reina Madrid, 53, and her daughter, Gisseth Madrid, 17, both of Phelan, died in the crash, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Division officials.
The Madrids were headed west on Highway 138, approximately 6 miles west of Interstate 15, in a green Dodge Ram 3500 van that reportedly drifted across the roadway, striking the side of a tractor-trailer headed in the opposite direction.
The van then rolled over multiple times, officials said. Reina and Gisseth Madrid were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The Madrids had just moved to Phelan a few months before the crash. Reina Madrid was a pastor for the Centro Cristiano Familiar in Fontana, while Gisseth had just been accepted into her dream university, according to her sister, Cintia Garcia.
“She was going to break the news as soon as she got home, but sadly, they didn’t make it home,” Garcia said. “My mom and dad were both pastors. She loved doing missionary work — helping people out was always her thing.”
