Fawn, PA : Pittsburgh man injured in crash on Route 908 in Fawn Township on Sunday, Sep 6, 2015

A Pittsburgh man sustained minor injuries at around 7:45 a.m. Sunday when he lost control of his tractor trailer and careened down a hill on Route 908 in Fawn Township.

The truck broke through “bridge out” signs, then descended about 30 feet into a ravine.

Robert Bell Riley, 31, was driving the truck for Frac Tech Services International of Fort Worth, Texas, according to state police in Kittanning who are investigating the crash. Riley suffered injuries to his chest and back while his rig took major damage when it plunged into the ravine close to Lardintown Road, according to police.

Riley was taken by ambulance to Allegheny Valley Hospital for an examination.

No toxic chemicals were spilled, except for less than 100 gallons of gasoline, according to Dave Collings, deputy chief of the Fawn Township Volunteer Fire Department.

The truck was carrying sand for fracking, but it was clean, Collings said. McCutcheon Enterprises of Allegheny Township cleaned up the sand, he said.

The cause of the crash is believed to be mechanical failure, although state police are further investigating, Collings said.
