TOWN OF MAMAKATING, CT : Wurtsboro man killed in Route 209 crash on Friday, October, 6th 2017
A one-car accident late Friday left the front-seat passenger dead and the driver facing a preliminary DWI charge, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff’s deputies identified the fatality as George Williams III, 26, of Wurtsboro. The driver, identified as Luke Dardis, 21, of Stamford, Conn., was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was listed in serious but stable condition.
The Sheriff’s Office said the fatal accident occurred about 11:55 p.m. in the hamlet of Summitville, when the car, a 2003 Lexus sedan, ran off Route 209 and struck a tree. Summitville and Wurtsboro fire departments responded to the scene and used Jaws of Life apparatus to extricate the occupants. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene by Alan Kesten, one of the Sullivan County coroners.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies have filed a preliminary DWI charge against Dardis, pending the outcome of a full investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office said a state police accident reconstruction team, operating out of Troop F headquarters in the Town of Wallkill, was assisting in the investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office said personnel from Mobilemedic EMS of Hurleyville, as well as a crew from Ellenville First Aid and Rescue, responded, along with sheriff’s deputies.
