SPICELAND, IN : Trooper injured in Henry County crash on Wednesday, December 7th, 2016

An Indiana State Police trooper from the Pendleton District received minor injuries when his car and a semi-truck collided Wednesday afternoon.

Doug Snyder, a nine-year veteran of the force, was reponding to a report that a semi-truck had run off the south side of eastbound I-70 near the 123 mile marker. The 2:40 p.m. report indicated a truck had gone into a pond.

Snyder was southbound on Indiana 3 at I-70 with his patrol lights and siren activated, responding to the crash. As he approached the I-70 off-ramp, he slowed to a near stop on the north side of the intersection to make sure vehicles in all directions saw him and stopped, according to police reports.

As Snyder proceeded south through the intersection a semi, which had exited from I-70 eastbound and was stopped at the light, pulled out into the path of Snyder's car. The trooper swerved into the driving lane but was unable to get stopped before striking the rear wheels of the semi. Snyder was taken from the scene by Henry County EMS and was treated at Henry Community Health Hospital for minor injuries.

The driver of the semi, Kenneth Brinkmann, 57, of Indianapolis, was not injured. Brinkmann was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. The 2007 International Truck he was driving, registered to Taps Logistics of Indianapolis, was driven from the scene.

Henry County Sheriff deputies responded to the initial accident that involved a truck that went into a large retention pond. Two witnesses stopped at the scene and entered the water to help the driver to shore, the sheriff's department said.
