Lake County, FL : Three people, including an infant, killed in a two-vehicle crash near Obrien Road in Howey-in-the-Hills on Sunday, Sep 6, 2015

Three people, including an infant, were killed in a crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Lake County early Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle crash happened just before 4:30 a.m. near Obrien Road in Howey-in-the-Hills.

Troopers said the two cars, a Mercedes SUV and a Nissan Maxima, were southbound on the Turnpike when the driver of the Mercedes rear-ended the Maxima.

The vehicles rolled onto their sides and caught fire.

The driver and passenger in the Maxima died at the scene.

A second passenger, only identified as an infant girl, was thrown from the vehicle and later died at
Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando.

Troopers said the medical examiner will have to use dental records to positively identify the three people killed.

The driver of the Mercedes was identified as James Dameron, 24, of Orlando.

Troopers told Channel 9 Dameron’s license was suspended on September 1, but did not say why. They said he was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol wasn’t a factor in the crash.

Dameron was taken to South Lake Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation and troopers said charges are pending against Dameron.
