Denton, TX : 19-year-old dies after rollover accident on North Locust Street near Milam Road on Thursday afternoon, September 15, 2016
A 19-year-old man died Thursday afternoon after he reportedly drove off the roadway on North Locust Street near Milam Road, went through a ditch, up a hill and rolled about 60 to 80 yards into a field in far north Denton.
A caller reported the collision at 2:46 p.m. and told police the vehicle was off the roadway and hard to see, according to a news release from Denton police. Authorities later found the man on the ground outside the vehicle, a maroon Kia Spectra, the release said. Police said it’s not clear when the accident happened.
The car hit a wire fence as well as a few trees before flipping and rolling into the field, Denton police spokesman Shane Kizer said.
“It appears he was going at a very high rate of speed,” Kizer said. “I’ve never seen a car hit and roll and do all of those things and still go that far.”
Kizer could not confirm any other identifying information for the man. Denton police are still investigating the cause of the accident. It is unclear if distracted driving was a factor, Kizer said.
This was the third major wreck — and second fatal crash — in Denton on Thursday.
