Boston, MA : Man killed in accident on I-495 in Hopkinton on Sunday morning, January 1, 2017
A 30-year-old man died yesterday after the Chrysler Sebring he was driving crashed and broke apart on Interstate 495 in Hopkinton, state police said.
Troopers and firefighters responding to the 9 a.m. single-vehicle accident on the northbound side of the highway found the man, whose name was not released last night, trapped inside the front section of the shattered vehicle, which had “broken apart into numerous pieces,” police say.
With the assistance of Hopkinton and Milton firefighters, troopers were able to free the seriously injured man from the wreck and get him into an ambulance, which rushed him to Milford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Although the cause of the crash remains under investigation, state police say a preliminary investigation indicates “excessive speed was a factor.”
State police said the highway was shut down for about 12 minutes yesterday so a medical helicopter could land at the scene of the crash.
The department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction and Crime Scene Service sections are assisting with the investigation.
