Orlando, FL : 42-year-old man was killed, Driver arrested in hit-and-run crash in Orange County on Monday, February 22, 2016
A 42-year-old Orlando man was killed in a chain-reaction hit-and-run crash in Orange County, and the driver accused of causing the wreck was arrested on several charges, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The FHP said Brett Adams died in the crash, which happened around 3:10 a.m. Monday on Orange Blossom Trail at Americana Boulveard.
According to the FHP, Valentin Oswaldo Sis Sis, 30, of Orlando, was driving a 2004 Acura and failed to stop, plowing into Adams' 2001 Mercedes, which was stopped at a red light.
Adams was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.
The Mercedes slammed into a Ford SUV, and a Ford pickup truck was also struck in the crash, troopers said. The drivers of the Fords were not injured, the FHP said.
"He was going about about 60 or 70," said Antonio Beltre, who witnessed the crash. "Very, very fast. Unbelievable."
According to troopers, Sis Sis drove off after the crash but was located a short time later. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with minor injuries and is in police custody.
"We're actually kind of surprised that vehicle was able to leave the scene (with) as much damage as occurred here," said FHP Sgt. Kim Montes.
Sis Sis, who the FHP said is from Guatemala but has lived in Orlando for seven years, faces charges of DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash involving death and driving without a license. The FHP said Sis Sis has never obtained a driver's license in Florida.
