JANESVILLE, WI : Alcohol might have been a factor in a head-on collision on May, Tuesday, 16th 2017
Alcohol might have been a factor in a head-on collision Tuesday night on Highway 51 near the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport, Janesville police Sgt. Mike Blaser said.
The accident occurred at 9:17 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 51 just north of Knilans Road. A pickup truck was headed north in the southbound lane and collided with an SUV, Blaser said.
Neither vehicle had passengers. Both drivers were transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center.
The accident's cause remains under investigation. Blaser did not say if either driver was intoxicated but said alcohol might have been involved.
The male driver of the pickup was unconscious but alive when first responders arrived on scene. The female driver of the SUV had less significant injuries, Blaser said.
The vehicles likely came to a "dead stop" upon collision, he said. Each vehicle's hood was severely damaged, and a spare tire had fallen off the back of the SUV upon impact.
Traffic was rerouted to County G while authorities responded to the accident.
