A man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Saturday evening near milepost 117 on WYO 120, in the vicinity the turnoff for the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway.

Jerry Brothers, 60, had been traveling south on WYO 120 when he left the roadway and was thrown from his bike, Wyoming Highway Patrol Sergeant Kyle McKay said. He was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved and the wreck is still under investigation, McKay said.“The road conditions were clear” at the time of the wreck, McKay said. And as of Monday morning, “There’s no indication alcohol is being investigated [as a factor in the crash].”

Brothers had been riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle and apparently lost control while negotiating a leftward bend in the road.

He had been traveling with another cyclist who police have not identified. That rider ultimately flagged down Cynthia Jackson while she was driving from Cody to Clark in her pickup truck, Jackson’s boyfriend Cory Sommer said. Sommer was not with Jackson on the scene.

“[Jackson] saw a motorcycle off the road and there was a guy there looking like he needed a little help,” Sommer said. “We’re both Harley riders, so she knew there was probably another motorcycle somewhere.

“She saw some motorcycle parts and he was down the embankment in the ditch area.”

As a personal trainer, Jackson has been instructed in CPR and she began trying to revive Brothers.

Because of poor cell coverage, it also took multiple phone calls to get in touch with responders from the

scene, Sommer said. According to sheriff logs, a call finally got through at 8:41 p.m.

“She just worked on [Brothers] till the ambulance came, probably 20 minutes or so,” Sommer said. “At least somebody was there that knew what they were doing and tried. It didn’t sound like there was much [she could] do.”
