Cookeville, TN : I-40 East reopens in Putnam County after 6-vehicle crash on Friday September 28 2016
The eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 were closed in Putnam County early Friday morning after a six-vehicle crash.
It happened around mile marker 273 near Cookeville around 2 a.m.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol told News 2 it was a chain-reaction crash where a car hit a camper-trailer following an initial crash.
At least two people were transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. The severity of their injuries was not immediately released.
The THP said there is no traffic diversion of this crash and asked motorists to avoid the area.
The Fire Department was called to cut the camper-trailer into pieces before it can be removed from the side of the interstate.
