Sebewaing, MI : 25-year-old man died in a crash in Sterling Heights early Tuesday morning, March 14, 2017

One person was killed and another is in custody following an early morning car crash Tuesday in Sterling Heights.

A 25-year-old Warren man was found dead at the scene after it appears two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.

The accident occurred at about 12:45 a.m. on Ryan Road near Fox Hill Drive, north of Metropolitan Parkway. One or both of the two vehicles involved in the crash crossed into the center lane. Police do not know which driver caused the accident.

According to Sterling Heights police Lt. James Belmonte, the driver of a Ford F-150, a 27-year-old Troy man, was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence of intoxicants. The second vehicle, a Chrysler Pacifica, was driven by a 24-year-old man from Sterling Heights. He was treated and released from a local hospital with minor injuries.

The victim was a front-seat passenger in the Pacifica. He was extricated from the vehicle.

Belmonte said narcotics were found in the Pacifica, but it is not known if the Sterling Heights man was under the influence of any narcotics. He did not indicate what type of narcotics were involved. If tests determine the second driver was under the influence of drugs, he could also be charged.

Belmonte didn’t know if road conditions, speed or distracted driving were factors in the crash.
