Sacramento, SC : A driver killed in a solo crash on May, Tuesday, 16th 2017

Authorities think a driver killed in a solo crash early Tuesday morning may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs when his car hit a light pole.

Coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter identified the driver as 28-year-old Omar Ruiz of Pomona. Winter said Ruiz died at the scene at 3:07 a.m.

The crash occurred on Valley Boulevard east of Paseo Tesoro around 2:50 a.m.

Ruiz was driving a 1989 Honda Civic westbound on Valley Boulevard when, for an unknown reason, the car veered to the left and hit the center median, California Highway Patrol Officer C. Banuelos said in a statement.

He said the impact caused Ruiz to lose control. The car went across all westbound lanes and collided with a light pole on the sidewalk.

“The impact caused Ruiz to be ejected from the vehicle.” Banuelos said.

He said alcohol or drugs is suspected to be a factor in the crash. However Banuelos didn’t explain why.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the CHP Baldwin Park Area office at 626-338-1164.
