Coral Springs, FL : Driver of a pick-up truck slammed into a house in Coral Springs while a family was inside sleeping on Tuesday morning, 18th November 2014
The driver of a pick-up truck slammed into a house in Coral Springs while a family was inside sleeping, Tuesday morning.
Rescue crews responded to the residence located at Northwest 39th Street and 110th Avenue, sometime before 6 a.m. Since then, building inspectors have deemed the house unsafe. Tuesday evening workers tried to cover the huge hole created by the accident.
"We heard a big boom," said Ann Marie Cornelius, who was asleep when the car backed into house. "We thought it was lightning but unfortunately it wasn't lightning, it was the truck that ran into the house."
According to investigators, the driver had his truck in reverse, when he somehow backed into the home. "I put my foot on the break, a little bit of gas to back up," said Jean Prosper, a neighbor to the family who drove into their home. "I tried to hit the break, and got none. The truck was still driving, driving, driving."
"Just heard a big 'Bang' you know," said the home's owner Sonia Lee . "Just a loud noise."
The truck stopped inches from Cornelius' bed. "It was a couch right there and it just pushed the bed over," said Kerlande Voltaire who was also asleep inside.
Cornelius said, she was in a car accident Monday night and did not get home from the hospital until 3 a.m. She, along with her mother and sister, were then awakened when the truck hit their house at 5 a.m. "I say it's God," added Cornelius. "It had to be God that really did this, and covered us and everything like that, and I really thank him for that."
According to Prosper, he was backing out of his driveway but his breaks failed. He managed to miss Lee's car that was parked in front of the home, but crashed into her bedroom. "It was all clouded in the room," said Lee. "I couldn't see anything."
Lee is a Pastor at Heart of Compassion Church in Coral Springs, and she thanked God several times over. "All I can say is God is good, I'm alive."
"I'm looking at my wall," said Cornelius when asked what she saw when she woke up. "My mom's room is closer to the whole accident thing." When asked what her mom was looking at when she woke up, Cornelius simply replied "The car right there."
No one was injured from the collision. Police said Prosper received four citations
