Port Orange, FL : Two people killed in motorcycle crash Highway 1 in Volusia County on Sunday January 31 2016.
A woman and a biker who lost control of his motorcycle on U.S. Highway 1 in Volusia County were killed in a series of crashes early Sunday morning.
Authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol said the biker lost control of his motorcycle near Spruce Creek Park and overturned just before 3:30 a.m.
The biker was thrown from his motorcycle and landed in the southbound lanes of traffic.
Investigators said Tina Martin, 33, of New Smyrna, had stopped to help the injured biker and parked her vehicle in the median. They said Martin was in the road, kneeling over the biker, when a minivan driven by James Nichols, 52, of Daytona Beach, struck her and the biker.
A sport utility vehicle being driven by Penelope Ferguson, 39, of Port Orange, also ran over the biker.
The biker, whose identity has not been released, and Martin were pronounced dead at the scene. Nichols also suffered a minor injury. Ferguson was not hurt.
