Jacksonville ,FL :Charles U. Chitty, 40, injured after wrong-way crash on Dames Point bridge Tuesday, September 8th 2015

A motorist struck about 5 a.m. Tuesday by a car going the wrong way on the Dames Point bridge escaped major injuries, but the other driver is critical, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Charles U. Chitty, 40, of Jacksonville was southbound on the bridge when an Acura TL traveling in the wrong direction on the inside lane collided with Chitty’s Dodge Ram. Chitty was released from a hospital Tuesday, the Highway Patrol said.

The Acura driver, whose identity has not been released, was hospitalized with critical injuries. Investigators said his sedan caught fire, and the pickup ended up on its side following the crash.

The collision happened about a half-mile north of Merrill Road.

All southbound lanes on the Interstate 295 bridge were closed following the crash but reopened later in the morning.
