Lincoln, NE : No students injured after SUV collides with school bus on 14th Street near Cornhusker Highway on Thursday morning, April 28, 2016
A 22-year-old woman was ticketed for negligent driving after losing control of her SUV Thursday morning and hitting a school bus, Lincoln police said.
Taylor N. Bennett passed another car while headed north on 14th Street near Cornhusker Highway about 7:30 a.m., then lost control and hit the front end of a stopped school bus, Officer Katie Flood said.
The Lincoln Public Schools bus, carrying four students and two adults, was in the southbound lane waiting to turn left onto Cornhusker. The bus was taking the special education students to Beattie Elementary School, said LPS Transportation Director Bill McCoy.
Rescue workers removed the SUV’s driver-side door and took Bennett to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police and fire officials said.
No other injuries were reported, and another bus picked up the students.
Witnesses told police speed may have factored into the crash.
