SPARTANBURG, SC : Woman killed in Spartanburg Co. crash identified as Cross Anchor fire chief's wife on Saturday, 10th September 2016

Two Upstate fire departments are mourning a great loss after the wife of a chief and mother of an assistant chief died in a car wreck in Spartanburg County Saturday.
FOX Carolina learned from officials with the Woodruff Fire Department that the victim, 64-year-old Beth Bishop Godfrey, was married to Cross Anchor Fire Chief Ron Godfrey and was the mother of Woodruff Assistant Fire Chief Wade Godfrey.
Officials said the collision occurred around 12:10 p.m. on Saturday. According to reports, the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet SUV was traveling west on SC Highway 92 near Airport Road and 8 miles east of Woodruff during the crash.
The driver reportedly traveled off the right side of the roadway and then over corrected causing the vehicle to travel off the left side of the road. The driver of the vehicle then lost control and the SUV overturned in the roadway.
The coroner reported that, Beth Godfrey of Union high in Enoree, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Godfrey was not wearing a seat belt during the wreck, and was ejected from the vehicle.
The coroner also said the firefighter and emergency response community has been saddened by Godfrey's passing, and asks for the community pray for those affected by this great loss..
