Waianae, HI : One person dead, 2 injured following car crash on Waianae Valley Road on Sunday, December 27, 2015

A 19-year-old Waianae man is dead after the vehicle he was driving collided with another vehicle and then crashed into a power pole on Waianae Valley Road just after midnight Sunday.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office has identified the man as Harvey Hashimoto Jr.

Investigators said Hashimoto was traveling south bound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line and collided into a vehicle traveling north bound.

Hashimoto’s vehicle continued south bound where it crashed into and severed a power pole. Hashimoto was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends and family of Hashimoto Jr. were devastated and grief stricken by the loss.

"He was just real loving. He would put other people in front of him first instead of thinking about himself. Just a really cool friend. He could get along with anybody. I wish other people could get to know him before this happened" said Hashimoto Jr.'s friend Kapukawai Raposas Mamala

Police closed Waianae Valley Road back toward Plantation Road during the investigation.

Two women, aged 29 and 23, were in the north bound vehicle. Both were taken to an area hospital in serious condition.

Two 18-year-old passengers were in the vehicle with Hashimoto at the time of the collision. Neither passenger was injured.

Police say speed appears to be a factor in the crash. It is still unknown whether alcohol was involved.

This is the 48th fatal traffic accident this year compared to 54 this time last year.
