Monroe, NC : Several students were injured when a vehicle was knocked into the back of their school bus in Union County on Monday morning , 17th November 2014
Several students were injured Monday morning when a vehicle was knocked into the back of their school bus in Union County, according to a report.
The bus, with 34 students on board, was stopped in the westbound lane of State Road 100 at the Northwest 106th Loop as it picked up children at 7 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A Pontiac G6 driven by Rebecca Sweat, 45, of Lake Butler was topped directly behind the bus when a Honda Civic driven by Zachary Coursey, 19, of Keystone Heights hit it from behind, knocking it into the bus, the FHP reported.
Two students on the school bus had minor injuries and were picked up by their parents on scene. Another student, who was on the bus steps at the time of the crash, was taken for medical treatment.
A 5-year-old child in the Pontiac was transported for medical treatment by his father.
Coursey was cited for careless driver by the FHP. The westbound lane of SR 100 was blocked by the crash for more than an hour, the report stated.
This is the second accident involving a school bus in recent months in the region. In September, 10 people were injured, including seven Starke Elementary School students, after a log truck smashed into a school bus as the bus made a stop on U.S. 301 in Bradford County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
