Erie Township, MI : Toledo man injured in a two-car crash on Summit St. at Temperance Rd on Tuesday morning, September 27, 2016

A 73-year-old Toledo man was hospitalized for injuries he suffered Tuesday morning in a two-car crash on Summit St. at Temperance Rd.

According to Erie Township police Chief Dean Ansel, the man was driving a vehicle eastbound on Temperance when he pulled out in front of another vehicle headed south on Summit about 6:55 a.m. The victim was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extracted by Erie Township volunteer firefighters using the Jaws of Life tool. The man was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Hospital, Toledo, where he was reported in good condition, Chief Ansel said. The other driver was not injured.

Both vehicles were totaled. Northbound Summit was closed for about an hour until debris from the crash could be cleared, the chief said.

Michigan State Police assisted with the accident.
