Wellington,OH : One dead, one seriously injured in Route 58 head-on collision on June, Wednesday 14th 2017
A head-on collision left a Wellington woman dead and two men taken to hospitals Wednesday night.
The crash occurred just before 10 p.m. on state Route 58 north of Webster Road.
A Jeep driven by Raymond Mckissick, 25, of Lorain, was headed northbound on Route 58. A statement from the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the Jeep went left of center and collided with a 2013 Dodge Journey headed south, driven by Christine Weeks, 49, of Wellington. Weeks was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Mckissick was extricated from the Jeep and flown to University Hospital in Cleveland. A passenger in the Jeep, Tristen Truelson, 21, of Columbia Station, was taken by ambulance to Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin, where he was treated for minor injuries. The road was closed until around 2 a.m.
Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Vernon Pickering said the cause of the crash was under investigation. A statement issued Thursday morning said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
Debris including tires, mirrors and engine parts was scattered all over the road and in yards. Troopers were on scene investigating while crews from the Wellington Fire Department worked under spotlights to extract people from the vehicles.
Nearby neighbors said they’ve witnessed many accidents in the area and they wish the state would lower the speed limit.
