Clark County, KY : 2 Dead, 2 Hurt In Ambulance-Involved Crash In Clark County on Monday afternoon, December 29, 2014
The Clark County Sheriff said two people are dead and two paramedics are hurt, after a crash involving an ambulance and a car on the Mountain Parkway Monday afternoon.
The wreck happened on the Eastbound lanes of the Mountain Parkway near mile marker eight in Clark County, just after 2:30 p.m.
Officials said a small blue car was traveling Westbound on Mountain Parkway when it crossed the center line for unknown reasons into the path of the ambulance that was traveling Eastbound.
"This ambulance passed us and just as soon as it got passed us there was the little blue car that come from the other side and crossed the median into his path. And it kind of spun around in front of it, and when it did it was like an explosion. And it just jumped over the car, landed on it's side and skidded up the highway," said Junior Smith. He and his family were traveling behind the ambulance during the crash.
The sheriff said the man and woman who were in the blue car immediately passed away. Two employees in the ambulance were hurt, luckily there were no patients inside the vehicle at the time of the wreck.
"We jumped out and went to help them and we saw that the two in the vehicle were dead. So, we went on to the ambulance and got one of them out and the other one was pinned," said Smith.
The men are paramedics with Allen's Ambulance Services, a private company in Owsley County. The sheriff said one of the men was flown from the scene to the University of Kentucky Hospital and the other man was driven to Clark Regional Hospital. Both men are expected to be okay.
