Annapolis, MD : Two killed after shuttle, car collide near Williams Tunnel on Wednesday, 31st August, 2016
Two Texans died in a tragic crash near the Ted Williams Tunnel yesterday when their hotel shuttle van was rear-ended by a Subaru, veered across the highway and smashed into roadway barriers, state police said.
Joseph A. Rodriguez, 59, and Sandra L. Arreola, 47, both of El Paso, were ejected from the Hampton Inn shuttle van and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
A 57-year-old woman from El Paso, a passenger in the van, was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries. A 45-year-old man from Tampa in the van was treated at Tufts Medical Center and released.
The 53-year-old shuttle driver, from East Boston, remains hospitalized at Tufts Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the 2005 Subaru Legacy. a 27-year-old man from Swampscott, also remains hospitalized at Tufts Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not released the driver’s identity.
No charges have been filed in the crash, which remains under investigation by state police.
State police said the Subaru was traveling north after exiting the Ted Williams Tunnel on Route 1A near Logan International Airport when it slammed into the rear of the shuttle — causing the 2004 Ford van to veer left into a jersey barrier, then right into another barrier.
The shuttle had seatbelts, but police have not said whether passengers were wearing them.
