Wayne County, OH : Fiery crash closes portion of U.S. Route 30 for days in Wayne County on Sunday, August 3, 2014
A fiery crash involving two trucks Sunday has closed the westbound lanes of U.S. Route 30 for an estimated five days in Wayne County’s Plain Township.
According to a report by Beacon Journal news partner NewsNet5, the accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday when a truck driven by a Michigan man slammed into a gasoline tanker driven by a Stark County resident. Both vehicles immediately burst into flames.
The first truck was driven by William Nobach, 22, of Mount Pleasant, Mich., who was ejected. NewsNet5 reported he was taken by medical helicopter to Metro Health Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition with burns and broken bones.
The tanker truck — which was hauling 6,400 gallons of gasoline and 1,500 gallons of diesel fuel — was driven by Kenneth Kesner, 27, of Canton, who walked away from the accident uninjured, the report said.
Multiple fire and police departments, as well as the Wayne County Environmental Protection Agency, responded to the accident.
The Ohio Department of Transportation estimated the westbound lanes of Route 30 would be closed for approximately five days.
