Waco, TX : A head-on crash on Highway 6 on Monday, June 5, 2017

A head-on crash on Highway 6 and Baylor Camp Road injured five people, including two young children, near Speegleville on Monday afternoon, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. D.L. Wilson said.

Authorities were called to a two-vehicle crash near Speegleville after a southbound 2006 Ford SUV was traveling on Highway 6 and swerved to miss a northbound 2015 Outlander SUV that tried to turn east onto Baylor Camp Road, Wilson said. The Ford lost controlled control and struck the Outlander head-on.

The driver of the Outlander, a 48-year-old man, and his 21-year-old passenger, both of Waco, were taken to Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, Wilson said. The driver of the Ford SUV, a 30-year-old woman from Grandbury, was also taken to the hospital and was listed in stable condition Monday evening.

Wilson said the 30-year-old driver was also traveling with a 5-year-old child and a 5-month-old infant. Both were taken to the hospital for observation. Both children were properly restrained in a child safety seat at the time of the crash and did not appear to suffer serious injuries.

"This is a crash that could have been really bad," Wilson said. "We always encourage the proper usage of child safety seats and seat belts."

Speegleville Volunteer Fire Department assisted emergency responders in removing all occupants from damaged vehicles. Wilson said the crash remains under investigation.
