Lansing, MI : Men in critical condition following crash after police chase in Royal Oak Township on Saturday, 17th September 2016
Michigan State Police are investigating after a police chase over the weekend in Royal Oak Township ended with a serious crash and two men in critical condition, officials say.
State troopers at 2 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, spotted a minivan leaving a parking lot with no headlights on at the intersection of Mendota and Pasadena Avenue.
The officers were in the area investigating multiple reports of tire and car thefts.
After the minivan got into the roadway, the troopers activated their lights and sirens for a traffic stop. Police checked the license plate and learned the van had been stolen. The minivan did not stop, and a police chase began.
The minivan, carrying three men, crashed into a tree in the area of Clarita and Pinehurst. The incident trapped the driver and passenger inside the minivan. The man in the backseat suffered broken ribs and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police say.
The driver and passenger both of whom had to be extricated from the van were sent to a local hospital, as well, and were last listed in critical condition.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, authorities report.
