Smyth County, VA :I-81 in Va open again after wreck on Monday, July 13th 2015
We're learning more about the early morning wreck on Interstate-81 in Virginia.The crash happened just before 7:30am at the 50 mile marker which is in Smyth County.The Virginia State Police Department says a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado ran off the left side of the road and struck the guardrail. Another northbound vehicle stopped in an attempt to avoid the crashed Silverado. The second vehicle was then rear-ended by the vehicle behind it, sparking a four-vehicle chain reaction crash in the northbound lanes of I-81.The last vehicle involved in the crash was a tractor-trailer pulling a cattle trailer that ended up overturning off the right side of I-81. No cattle were in the trailer at the time. Crews had to clean up diesel that spilled from the tractor-trailer.Two people suffered minor injuries in the wrecks.
The investigating troopers did file charges against two drivers involved.The crash remains under investigation.Traffic should be moving again along Interstate-81 in Virginia.Virginia State Police are clearing a wreck from earlier Monday morning involving a tractor trailer. The wreck happened around 7:30am Northbound at mile marker 50 in Atkins, Va.Police closed one lane of the interstate for a short time as crews cleaned up crash.No word on any injuries.
