Centralia, WA : Motorcyclist injured after collided with a dump truck on the Harrison Avenue Interstate 5 in Centralia on Friday morning, April 17, 2015
A Rochester man sustained serious injuries in a Friday morning crash that required him to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Scott R. Bliss, 44, was injured when the 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was riding on collided with a dump truck on the Harrison Avenue northbound onramp to Interstate 5 in Centralia.
According to a Washington State Patrol incident report, Bliss was on the on-ramp to northbound I-5 when a 2004 Mack dump truck with a trailer driven by Wesley G. Snelson, 61, of Galvin, turned onto the on-ramp from a construction site. The motorcycle then hit the trailer, ejecting Bliss.
Firefighters with the Riverside Fire Authority arrived to find Bliss down on the roadway. West Thurston Regional Fire Authority also responded and set up a landing zone for a medevac unit at the Scatter Creek Northbound rest area north of Grand Mound.
Snelson was unhurt and the truck he was driving was not damaged. Meanwhile, the motorcycle Bliss was riding was totaled in the crash.
As of late Friday morning, the Washington State Patrol continued to investigate the cause of the crash. No citations have been issued.
The crash took place in a construction site that is part of the Mellen Street to Blakeslee Junction project administered by the Washington State Department of Transportation. Crews have been working consistently to improve traffic flow in the area by adding collector/distributor lanes to the freeway in Centralia.
