Chicago, IL : 20-year-old man killed and two others injured in a multiple-vehicle crash on the Northwest Side on Monday, January 18, 2016
A 20-year-old man was killed and two others were injured in a multiple-vehicle crash Monday on the Northwest Side, police said.
At about 7:25 p.m., a 19-year-old man driving a BMW northbound in the 5100 block of North Nagle Avenue rear-ended a car that was stopped in traffic, said Chicago Police spokeswoman Officer Janel Sedevic.
That forced the car into two other vehicles, and the BMW hit a tree.
The 19-year-old driver and his 20-year-old passenger were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The passenger was pronounced dead. The driver's injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and charges against him are pending, Sedevic said.
The driver of the car that was rear-ended, a 35-year-old man, also was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. His condition was stabilized.
Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, according to a law enforcement source.
Police initially said the crash occurred in the southbound lanes, just one person was injured, and he was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. That information was later corrected.
