Amherst Township, OH : Woman driving on 2 flats in head-on crash on State Route in Amherst Township on Monday afternoon, December 1, 2014
A woman driving on two-flat tires, who according to witnesses was driving recklessly, was involved in a head-on crash Monday afternoon, Highway Patrol reports.
Troopers say the crash happened at about 12:45 p.m. on State Route 58 just south of Middle Ridge Road in Amherst Township.
Highway Patrol says a 2005 Hyundai Sonata, driven by 51-year-old Annie Kasperovich of Lorain, was heading north on State Route 58 with two-flat tires.
Troopers say Kasperovich crossed the center line and hit a 2007 Toyota Matrix, driven by 26-year-old Amanda Cook of Elyria, heading south on State Route 58.
Both drivers were injured and had to be extricated from their cars.
Kasperovich was taken Metrohealth Medical Center by helicopter.
Cook was taken University Hospital by ambulance, but was later flown to Metrohealth Medical Center.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Troopers did not know the conditions of the drivers at the time of their press release.
According to Highway Patrol, a witness on scene was attempting to report Kasperovich as a reckless driver prior to the crash.
The witness told troopers Kasperovich ran a red light and was driving on two flat tires as she turned north onto State Route 58 from the Ohio Turnpike.
He also reported seeing flames from under the car prior to the crash, Highway Patrol stated.
Troopers say it is unknown where the prior damage occurred.
The same witness witnessed the head on crash and stopped to help, according to Highway Patrol.
Troopers say alcohol use by Kasperovich is suspected as a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
