Newport, NC : Motorcyclist dies in accident at Highway 70 and Nine Foot Road on Sunday, July 24, 2016

A Duplin County man died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday when his motorcycle left the highway and crashed near this town, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Trooper S. Powell was called to the scene at Highway 70 and Nine Foot Road.

The operator of the motorcycle, Charles Bryan Hatcher, 59, of Lyman Road in Chinquapin, was later pronounced dead at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City.

Trooper Powell reported the operator made a left turn onto Highway 70 from Nine Foot Road and rapidly accelerated.

Witness’ reported the operator lost control and appeared to be in a speed wobble. The operator was ejected, and the motorcycle struck the pavement.

Trooper Powell was assisted by Trooper J. Howell.
