A 22-year-old local man was killed Thursday night when he was thrown off a motorcycle on Route 24 in Fall River.
Joshua Silva was declared dead at the scene, state police said.
The accident was reported about 10:25 p.m. in the northbound side of the highway.
Preliminary investigation indicates Silva was operating a 2006 EX650 motorcycle when, for reasons still under investigation, he veered into the guardrail on the right side.
The motorcycle was located lying against the guardrail about a quarter of a mile north of the original crash scene.
The crash remains under investigation by Trooper Sean Hennessey with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, Bristol County State Police Detective Unit, Crime Scene Services Section and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Fall River firefighters and MassDOT assisted at the scene.
Silva was a 2013 graduate of Seekonk High School.
