Barstow, CA : Tractor-trailer spills oranges into Barstow desert in crash on Thursday, December 29, 2016

The desert near Highway 58 became the resting place for thousands of oranges on Thursday when a tractor-trailer crashed just after noon, authorities said.

No one was injured, but quite a mess was created.

The crash occurred on Highway 58 east of Harper Lake Road and involved a single tractor-trailer carrying a load of oranges. California Highway Patrol officials said in a Thursday news release the tractor-trailer overturned and the load of citrus fruit was spilled into the desert.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was headed east on Highway 58 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted to the right and overturned into the open desert south of the roadway. The driver was uninjured and no other injuries were reported.

CHP officials said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the collision, which remains under investigation.
