Cabarrus County, NC : two people killed in a car crash on Davidson Road near Highway 3 on Sunday, January 31, 2016

North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers are investigating after two people were killed in a crash Sunday in Cabarrus County.
Just before 6 p.m., a car crossed the center line on Davidson Road near Highway 3 and collided with another car.

Trooper Wade Nesbit said Daniel Marvin Harlan was driving a 2010 Ford Flex when he went left of center and collided head-on with a Pontiac GT.
Harlan died at the scene. The driver of the second car, Gary Michael Patterson Jr., also died at the scene.

"I've seen many wrecks, but this one -- the impact was severe," Nesbit said. "And it took two good people from us."

Patterson's wife and 13-year-old son were also in the car. They were taken to area hospitals.
"I've been worried about it every day," homeowner Frank Chester said. "And it's going to happen again too."

The road remained closed until midnight.
