Morristown, TN : Del Rio man killed in crash on Saturday, 10th March 2018
A Cocke County man died Saturday morning when his vehicle went out of control on South Highway 107 in Del Rio and struck a tree.
Trooper Toby Cameron of the Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the victim as John J. Riddle, 24, of Del Rio.
Riddle was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the 2:07 a.m. crash, however, Cameron says a seat belt would not have made a difference.
Tests will determine if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash.
Cameron said Riddle was southbound negotiating a curve when his 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt left the roadway and struck a utility pole and tree.
The vehicle then rolled coming to rest on its side.
Emergency personnel removed the roof of the vehicle to remove the driver, who was dead on arrival at the Newport Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 13, in the Riddle Family Cemetery, 1370 Blue Mill Road, Del Rio. Arrangements by Manes Funeral Home.
