Torrance County, N.M : Man dies after single-vehicle crash on I-40 near Edgewood Saturday afternoon, July 30, 2016

A man died in a single-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 40 Saturday afternoon, the Torrance County Sheriff's Office said.

The crash happened just before noon near Edgewood.

The Sheriff's Office said it appeared the out-of-state driver crashed after falling asleep at the wheel and was ejected from the car. Deputies do not believe he was wearing a seat belt.

The Sheriff's Office said he was then hit by other motorists driving eastbound on I-40.

Investigators shut down parts of the interstate but all lanes have since reopened.
