Milton, DE : Frederica man, 75, dies in Route 1 crash on Saturday, 8th February, 2020

A 75-year-old Frederica man was killed Feb. 8 following a two-car crash Feb. 8 on Route 1 near Milton.

The crash happened at 2:51 p.m. near Eagles Crest Road when a 75-year-old Frederica man was driving a 2020 Toyota RAV 4 in the right lane of southbound Route 1 north of Eagles Crest Road and a 2015 Audi A3 driven by a 31-year-old Newark man was traveling directly behind the Toyota, said Master Cpl. Michael Austin of the Delaware State Police. The Audi failed to slow down as it approached the Toyota and struck it from behind, causing the Toyota to run off the west side of the roadway where it overturned before coming to rest in a grassy area, Austin said. The Audi also traveled off the west side of the roadway, striking a chain link fence and proceeding through it, he said, before coming to a stop.

The Frederica man was ejected from the vehicle, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 69-year-old female passenger in his vehicle was transported to Beebe Healthcare with serious injuries. Identification of the victim is pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Audi was taken to Beebe Healthcare with serious injuries.
