BERLIN TOWNSHIP, MI : Carleton teen killed in Berlin Township crash on Saturday, January, 27th 2018
A Carleton teen was killed as a result of a one-vehicle crash shortly after 6:15 a.m. today on N. Dixie Highway near Ready Road.
The Michigan State Police, Monroe post, is investigating and has reported the following preliminary details:
The driver, who was 17 years old but whose name has not yet been released to news media, was driving a 1994 Ford Ranger northbound on Dixie Highway. He lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line and left the road.
At that point, troopers said the vehicle appears to have struck the railroad tracks and then went airborne. The truck then collided with a tree, resulting in extensive damage. The driver suffered fatal injuries, state police added.
First responders called to respond included Monroe Community Ambulance, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Berlin Township Fire Department. Norfolk Southern was requested to stop train traffic in the area while rescuers were on scene, according to Monroe County Central Dispatch records.
The crash is still under investigation; anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Christopher Hardaway at 734-242-3500.
