One person was arrested in the early morning hours Sunday, accused of drunkenly crashing an SUV into the patio of a West Side bar.
Deadra Armstead, 25, faces two preliminary drunken driving charges in connection to the incident. Officers were dispatched to a crash around 3 a.m. and found a Saturn Outlook with heavy front-end damage "parked" on the patio of River Bend, according to a probable cause affidavit from the Evansville Police Department.
"The patio railing, tables and chairs were scattered and damaged due to the accident," the affidavit said.
An officer working off-duty at a nearby bar told the responding officers that he saw the SUV head northbound on North 11th Avenue and strike two vehicles before turning onto Franklin Street, where it ran onto the curb and hit the patio.
A witness reportedly saw the driver, later identified as Armstead, try to crawl over the center console into the passenger seat. A passenger confirmed to police that Armstead was driving.
