Logansport, IN : Man injured in crash east of town Wednesday afternoon, March 8, 2017
A Logansport man was hospitalized after a highway crash east of town Wednesday afternoon, according to a Cass County Sheriff's deputy.
First responders were dispatched to the two-vehicle crash on U.S. 24 west of South 500 East in Cass County at about 5:25 p.m. March 8.
Cass County Sheriff's Deputy Brenton McDonald said his investigation indicated the crash involved a red Dodge Intrepid driven by Kashmir Nabors, 27, Logansport, and a silver GMC Acadia driven by Jessica Schwingle, 37, Peru, on the eastbound side of the highway.
McDonald said the Intrepid was either stopped or traveling very slowly in the right lane when the Acadia came up behind it and couldn't pass it by moving into the left lane because another vehicle was in that lane, forcing the front passenger side of the Acadia to collide with the rear driver's side of the Intrepid, spinning both vehicles 180 degrees.
McDonald said Prompt Ambulance Central transported Matthew Merrill, 26, Logansport, a front-seat passenger in the Intrepid, to Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Nabors suffered a laceration to her tongue and Schwingle was not injured, McDonald said.
McDonald said a mechanical problem was not the reason the Intrepid was stopped or moving slowly on the highway and that the results of a toxicology report on Nabors is pending, adding she has not been charged.
The Indiana State Police also responded.
