Scottsboro, AL : Pedestrian fatally struck by multiple vehicles in Alabama 79 crash on Saturday, March 4, 2017
A pedestrian was struck by multiple vehicles in a fatal crash on Alabama 79 in Scottsboro late Saturday.
Nathan Jerome Adkins, 36, was killed while he was walking on the roadway around 6 p.m., Scottsboro police Lt. Erik Dohring said today.
It's unclear why Adkins, of Scottsboro was walking in the area near North Sauty Marine, Dohring said.
After Adkins was initially hit, two or three additional vehicles also struck his body, according to police.
"It was just a terrible accident," Dohring said. "There was no criminal intent. That's a very dark stretch of roadway."
Police do not expect any criminal charges to be filed.
Jackson County Coroner John David Jordan said Adkins was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause was listed as blunt force trauma.
"All of the cars were close together," Jordan said. "A man blocked off the road once they realized a person had been hit."
Additional information has not yet been released.
