Rehoboth, DE : A 14-year-old boy driving a go-kart died on Wednesday, December, 27th 2017

A 14-year-old boy driving a go-kart died Dec. 27 after colliding with a car on Route 30 south of Milford.

The Lincoln boy was driving a go-kart at 4:40 p.m. along the northbound shoulder of Route 30, also known as Cedar Creek Road, when a Lincoln woman, 36, was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry southbound on Cedar Creek Road, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.

For unknown reasons, Jaffe said, the go-kart swerved to the left and crossed into the path of the Camry. The driver of the Camry was unable to avoid the go-kart; the front of the car hit the right side of the go-kart, ejecting the boy into the middle of the southbound lane of Cedar Creek Road, Jaffe said. The go-kart was partially stuck under the bumper of the car, which stopped a short distance away.

Jaffe said the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was properly restrained and was not injured as a result of this crash.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Cedar Creek Road was closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
